Have you been tearing your hair out trying to find engaging things for your kids to do? We have been too. Try having zoom meetings with a child trying to get your attention.
Yes, we have been guilty of using ipads as a digital babysitter…Oh well.
After much creative thinking over a bottle of wine, here are 5 things you can do to entertain your children.
1. Host or join a online interest group for your kids!
Play time can be done online too! Get a couple of friends with children or teenagers and get them all on a zoom call where they can play different online games or talk to each other. Children are creative creatures; I’m sure they can find something to do with other kids online.
Here are ideas:
- 10 online games to play with friends
- Online language exchange
- Online Quiz competition
2. Do a 30 day challenge
Lockdown is a great opportunity for you to commit to a 30 day challenge with your children (since you can’t go out anyway…). Sit down and plan out a fun challenge, take daily photos and bond with your children over it! Studies have shown that group goals bond people together like no other. Set up a whatsapp or telegram group to document the challenge!
Some fun challenges:
- Daily pushups challenge
- The baby shark ab challenge
- Do something new for 30 days (Check out why this is good on TEDx here)
- Co-create daily stories and have a show-and-tell before bedtime
3. Relive your childhood by playing board games with your kids
Remember the hours of fun you had playing Monopoly, UNO and other games with your friends? Games are a great way to kill time, since they are interactive and fun for all ages. Pull out the old games sitting in your dusty cupboard or if you don’t have any, buy a new one.
Here are some of my favorites during this time:
- UNO
- Exploding Kittens
- Ticket to Ride
There are also a new breed of games that are designed to be played both offline and online via video conferencing during lockdown. Check out Bye Bye Virus, a hilarious card game designed to keep players safe and sane!
Have fun everyone!
